The position of the German government hasn't changed in the past months:

Federal Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer issued the following statement on October 17 on reports regarding a North Korean uranium enrichment program for the construction of nuclear weapons:

"The German Government is very concerned by this news. It has confronted the Pyongyang Government on repeated occasions in the past with its continued concern about possible secret nuclear activities by North Korea and urged it to build confidence in its compliance with its international obligations by exercising the greatest possible degree of openness.

A uranium enrichment program for weapons purposes would represent a grave and very serious violation of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, as well as other international obligations entered into by North Korea.

The German Government once more calls upon North Korea to meet in full and unambiguously its obligations within the context of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the Agreed Framework concluded with the US in 1994, as well as vis-à-vis the International Atomic Energy Agency. Activities in violation of obligations must cease immediately and any prohibited material destroyed in a verifiable manner.

The German Government will summon the North Korean Ambassador. It will closely coordinate further action with its partners. Our aim must be to find a peaceful solution to this situation which guarantees the stability of the Korean peninsula, as well as the full and unconditional compliance with international obligations."
