Varian Semiconductor Wins Best Supplier Award from Samsung Electronics

GLOUCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 2003--Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSEA - News), a leading supplier of ion implantation systems, today announced that it has received the Best Supplier Award from Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., the world's largest memory chipmaker. Varian Semiconductor won the award for achieving the highest score in Samsung Electronics' annual rating of equipment suppliers, which focuses on excellence in service and support, equipment performance and cost of ownership. Varian Semiconductor won top ratings in the areas of technical leadership, service and support, on-time delivery and cost of ownership advantage.

Jong-Yong Yun, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Samsung Electronics, presented the award to Richard A. Aurelio, chairman and chief executive officer of Varian Semiconductor, who accepted the award on behalf of the Company. "Varian Semiconductor is honored to receive this award," said Richard A.
