Sun HILL road......

Sun CEO Scott McNealy touted Sun's advances during its fiscal year, including the release of more than 20 new, low-end servers and other devices. However, he admitted that the company still has a lot of road to make up as it tries to maintain steady profits.

Sun's current low-end to mid-range server campaign is apparently dragging along a lot of low-end to mid-range SAN/NAS sales. Sun buys its low-end to mid-range SAN/NAS products from Dot Hill, which in turn, buys its RAID controllers from Infortrend (Taiwan) and sub-contracts the assembly of its arrays to Solectron.

Sun provides Dot Hill with a standard 6-month rolling forecast, but with an unusually short turnaround time of only 8 hours. Still, it is worth noting that Sun now expects to sell $101M worth of low-end to mid-range Dot Hill storage products to its installed base during the next 2 quarters.
