>>It would seem like you could use it to trade ES futures as well.<<
I have no experience with that and will stick to this system for now...but if you want to mess around with it I'm here to help you if I can.

>>That gets you a chance to make a correction mid-day (something funds do not allow).<<

Rydex does allow trades of their mutual funds at 10:30a.m.EST and in the afternoon before the close...but you have to have an account with them directly to do it.

I developed a technique for trading these types of funds in my IRA account that allowed me to short or go long at any time intraday. It was very, very sucessful during volatile market conditions...but it required large amounts of capital.
Basically this is how I did it...purchase one of the leveraged short funds such as ultrabear fund...say $30,000 dollars worth...then use an intraday buy of $60,000 of SPY to in effect go neutral...when I wanted to short again I sold the $60,000 spy position and held the short bear fund.It allowed me to short in my IRA with intraday control of the position. It worked great but I don't have the time for it anymore...I used it with the NDX and used the QQQ as my "switch"...I called it the QQQx2.I'll explain further if anyone is interested.
