So much for "compassionate conservatism."

RE: Rush Limbaugh's statement that >>"The following statistics come from the Centers for Disease Control website: On a daily basis, on average, 10 Americans die by drowning, and nine Americans die by fire in their homes. 14 Americans die by pedestrian accidents. 27 Americans die in falls. On average, 50 Americans a day are murdered. 118 die in auto accidents, and 25 people die from A.I.D.S. every day, on average. Yesterday, two Americans died in battle in Iraq."<<

Let me guess:

*Whose children, friends and family have NO CHANCE of coming home in a body bag?

*Who made sure that when the odds were even worse of getting killed or injured, THEY were NOT within sniffing distance of the fighting and dying?

*Who fails to realize that when you send real people into combat, YOU have the tremendous obligation to make sure that it's NECESSARY, JUST, AND THAT THERE IS A REASONABLE CHANCE OF SUCCESS?

*Who talks tough from the safety of their air-conditioned and pampered lifestyles?

Yes, I know there are far too many choices from among Bush and his supporters, friends and cabinet and so I'll tell you. The polarizing, "they're stupid enough to believe any of the straw men I construct" and "I'm making millions off the damage I do by creating hatred and anger saying radical things that I don't even believe" man himself. And you're standing there with your mouth open and swallowing as fast as you can.

The proper perspective is that we sent them, some of them are dying far from home that wouldn't have "drowned" or died in accidents and fires, and the importance of that is too great to be bandied about with "so what" statistics. I think you'd understand that on an intuitive level if you'd ever been in combat in a war zone, or if any of yours had come home as pieces of meat zipped in a body bag. What's really clear is that you should be ashamed for repeating such drivel.
