<the delicious irony>

I find it delicious too.

In the Vietnam War, the Peace Party began with nil support in the military, Intelligence community, and either of the two main political parties.

In the Iraq colonization, we begin the war with large parts of the CIA, State Dept., and professional military officers, all against the war. These people are not pacifists, and it is an obvious smear to try and label them as unpatriotic. People like Powell, whose formative experience was as a small unit commander, leading ground troops in Vietnam.

So, right up till the day the last U.S. soldier leaves Iraq, expect to see many more ironic statements of support for the Peace Party, from people in organizations that you thought would reflexively support the War Party.

And, because many of these people are members of organizations that, officially, are supposed to support the war, their statements will often be "off the record".
