Fred, I'm a poor substitute for JS but will try...

The article said >including a huge $100 million order for Applied Materials Inc., according to a report from Morgan Stanley today (July 23).<

It's not clear whether MS or the article writer called the order 'huge', but for a $4B+ company a $0.1 order is not 'huge'.

AMAT has a PE of 42 on NEXT years [Oct'04] projected earnings today, so is valued for perfection.

AMAT is still committed to lay off more people. Would they do this if business were picking up?

Gottfried
PS: all of the above is an attempt to be bearish. I'm not very good at it. :)
