As always, remember that CCC (Corel Computer Corporation) is not exactly the same as Corel. CCC needs to have something like the Corel Office for Java that is an integrated set of productivity applications. They have their own developers that are working on that.

In the original article on directions that started these messages Mike C. never mentions Corel Office for Java directly. He talks about a "communications centric" world where "the information resides in a central corporate directory, and data automatically flows through the system. The communications system determines the infrastructure, which determines the application." This does not sound like the old COJ.

He talks about building block Java Beans. He says that ISV's will build applications from collections of Beans that are designed for creating vertical applications. This is something that the CCC people could use to meet their goals for build an application suite.

I posted previously about seeing a change in direction in the near future. Mike did not talk about releasing a COJ as we have heard about it in the past. All the new talk was about creating single sourced building blocks for ISV's to build custom communication centric applications.

I like this direction better. It makes more sense for generating cash flow in the near term. NC's are still a ways off before they are a staple in companies. Most NC's in the near term will be people using Windows machines under a browser. In this environment, people will not want to use simple Java versions of software that they probably already have on their machines. Selling building blocks that easily allow companies to create custom applications that can run on existing hardware and Windows platforms and also work on NC's makes more sense to me.
