Don't be too sure about Vivendi. They own Universal, which owns eLabs, a special division just started to handle technology/media opportunities -- read "maximizing profits from internet downloading of Universal Music Group properties" (and also video). The president of ELabs was just appointed to Roxio's Board. They may be stuffy as hell, but at least they see pay-per-track as an opportunity rather than a threat.
Sony and Universal both have a financial interest in Roxio. And both of them have excellent labels and artists, which raises the possibility of preferred or even exclusive licensing on Roxio/Pressplay.

My point is, one flick of the finger from Vivendi would crush an unwelcome buyout offer. I don't see either Sony or Vivendi competing in the field, because they are content providers. But I do see them keeping a careful eye on Pressplay.

I took a hard look, and I just don't see how RNWK can fit ROXI onto its balance sheet. They have a $100 M security offering set up, but they would eat this in a few months. Cash burn for competitors in this field is going to be ugly, as they advertise to build market share.

I better start a ROXI board today. Those of you interested in this subject, come on over. There is a LOT of money to be made in the next year.
