I would think anyone with even minimal knowledge of the markets and US tax laws knows you have to file a Schedule D on trades. And if he didn't have his 1099 he could have used trade confirmations to compute the proceeds and cost basis of said trades. Alternatively he could have used month end statements to verify the cumulative numbers.

It's a waste of time to ask questions of him since he evades so many of them.
