I think Eclipse is going to be built in a "fully functioned" configuration and then when the customer upgrades the actual transaction is completed via a microcode load handled over the Internet. IBM went to this concept in the early 90s and it was critical in expanding margins and productivity. The asset protection issues are key but with passwords, encryption keys and other things it can be protected. With the lower cost of chips and technology it is cheaper to load the machine out of the factory and just turn it on when the customer wants it.
