That was awesome!

Fifteen (more?) years ago my wife and I got a chance to do a day with someone who owed her a favour, a climbing guide who supported himself leading big buck European tourists on climbs through the Squamish and Garibaldi region. I loved it. She didn't. And I didn't really have anywhere much to go with it, and we had the backpacking we both enjoyed, so that was the end of it.

But I still hanker to do some more, though on bigger climbs I'd be fighting the old fear of heights (didn't bother me on the smaller faces he taught us on, but they weren't more than 70-80' I think, and - trusting soul - I felt no qualms, roped up and anchored).

It was pretty funny to be clinging 50' up, stuck for my next move, roped and secure, and he'd just scamper up free from the ground below to settle in beside me and suggest a hold. Made me think of Spiderman ;-)

I've hiked up to the top of the Chief a few times; it IS a nice view. Can't imagine climbing it, though, the height would do me in.

Cheers
