Scientists still argue about the effects of depleted uranium, I believe. When we
heard Congressman McDermott speak over last Christmas break, he explained
to the audience how the tips of missiles were dipped into uranium so that the
missiles would penetrate hard substances like metal. The danger arose when
the missiles exploded and the uranium particles were scattered throughout the
environment.

The military procures uranium from nuclear waste sites like the one in Hanford, WA.
