OK, thanks, I understand better now. In summary, so I have this correct: Shares in a brokerage cash account and not allowed to be borrowed to short; shares in a margin account are fair game to be borrowed, and thus sold short; and shares in a IRA are not allowed to be borrowed. Yes?

Is there advantage to actually taking delivery of the share certificates? Well I guess that's not possible in an IRA, but otherwise?

One last question, if one were sitting on a bunch of shares, what's the best plan right now with respect to gaining maximum shareholder value. Just hold on to 'em? That's my plan, there outstanding technology here. You have no idea...
