Hi Neocon; Re: "For all I know, the ABC guy talked to a handful of soldiers who were disgruntled, and a dozen who were not, and chose to emphasize the negative."
It's a violation of military discipline to complain about your orders etc. In normal times, you can't get very many soldiers to do that, as they can get court martialed for it. One need only read a few military blogs to realize how pissed off the soldiers are over there.
Re: "In any case, you do not know what Wolfowitz heard, and therefore cannot say whether he was spinning or not."
Up to now the Administration's record for seeing the Iraq situation with rose colored glasses has been close to 100%. There should be no real question about what morale among the ground pounders in Iraq is like.
It's not like this article was the only example of outraged troops. Their are huge numbers of postings, blogs, and news articles giving more examples of the same. During the first part of the war (back when Bush unwisely declared major actions over), these items were absent.
Re: "Otherwise, compared to the Clinton White House, this White House has been amazingly straightforward, and I stand by my remarks."
As a life-long Republican, I hold my party to a standard considerably higher than that which Clinton exhibited. Maybe it's good enough for you, but I think Clinton should have been drummed out of the White House. And besides, the American people are naturally going to require a higher standard out of a President that lead the country into a war.
