Thanks Carl,

I don't mean to suggest that Stratfor's work shouldn't be posted or that it didn't contain some truth. I found it "interesting" specifically because of it raised what I view as some important issues.

I would have expected think tank/consultant types to avoid some of the peculiar, unnecessary and unsupported generalizations they offer. For instance in the sentence you correctly edited, I was surprised that they would infer that the "public's" trust of the CIA would be a significant factor in the "public's" support for war.

Then they go on to claim that
(a) although it's clear to anyone watching, the true strategy basis for the war should be expressed more clearly;
(b) that such expression would present no PR/media problems because the media is too dumb to understand it; and
(c) that foreign policy would then be left to the government and the "public" to the exclusion of the media which will go off in search of "juicy murder" stories.

Moreover, their analysis didn't even make reference to the possible response that expression of the true strategy would receive outside the US. I assume that anyone in the US government would have trouble accepting these statements, much less act on them.

But Stratfor is clearly in business and someone is paying for its ideas, so I must be wrong.
