I'm not as interested in creating a beautiful example of Iraq (since I think it is difficult to know just what sort of thing you are going to create- even when you start out with the noblest intentions.) Therefore my whole thrust in my post is merely about further establishing the rule of law in international relations, and further promoting a global sense of unity. The end- always being something of a pipe dream- matters much less to me than the means, which ARE an obvious precedent to all.

So if we had waited for Iraq to actually attack us in some way, we reinforce the very important idea that self defense is one of the few excuses for attacking another sovereign country. On the other hand, if the UN had decided to go into Iraq, our joining them would have been an example of international cooperation- without concerning myself with the ends (which as I said previously, are pretty incalculable) I do approve totally of those means.

You know people talk a lot about ends and means- but something many people never really like to talk about is that means are knowable from the beginning of a project, ends on the other hand, are a gamble.
