Finding: Iraqis glad to be rid of Hussein

BAGHDAD, Iraq -- The National Democratic Institute Monday released a report indicating Iraqis are glad to be rid of Saddam Hussein.

It was the first scientifically designed public research to be carried out nationwide since the fall of Saddam's regime.

The poll was conducted in June and July across Iraq.

The poll found Iraqis are grateful for the ouster of Saddam but have a strong desire for order; they have mixed feelings about the prospects of freedom and democracy and women, and deep skepticism remains over the motives of emerging political parties.

The poll also found women will face particular challenges in ensuring their full political participation.

Additionally, disinformation remains a problem. The rumor mill and conspiracy theories dominate political discourse.
