HK: China economy most dynamic now
The 7th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention: STORIES BY PAULINE S.c. NG, P.W. THONG, HONG BOON HOW AND KATHY FONG THE overall impact on China's economy from the recent outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) may be much smaller, and shorter-lived, than expected, Dr Philip Wong, 1st vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, believes.
The implementation of effective measures to battle the crisis that emerged in the second quarter this year, “helped subside a potential round of economic crisis”, he noted.
“China, vast as she is, has a certain ability in adapting to the impact of disasters and surviving,” he said, noting that, five years ago – even when it faced serious flooding – China managed an impressive 7.8% in economic growth.
