Mark, Great post. It's good to see you on the thread. One thing I hate is one way cheerleading, even if I'm the head cheerleader! I think your points are valid, but what I believe we'll see is the telco's buying whole WAN networking systems from the major suppliers (ASND, CSCO, and latter COMS) who integrate xDSL into their servers just as they integrate ISDN today. Carriers are not in the business of trying to waste their time putting square pegs in round holes (one vendors modem into anothers server) when they can buy plug and play systems. So your point about selling into the telcos through alliance's is right on the nose - the key allainces AWRE has chosen are COMS and ASND. CSCO is certainly setting themselves up to be this kinda one-stop xDSL shop w/ their Alcatel deal and Dagaz purchase. ASND (and latter COMS) will follow very soon or decide to get out of the remote access business :). When they do follow, it will be with AWRE/ADI chipsets. One thing that does bother me, however, is the details of the deals with ASND and COMS or rather, the lack of details. I get the feeling that if better xDSL technology comes along from another vendor (MOT?), the deal will very quickly become a memory. Comments welcome!
