China produces one third of world's total mobile phones in H1

Shanghai. (Interfax-China) - China has become the world's largest mobile phone producer, with its production volume of handsets accounting for one third of the world's total in the first half of this year, revealed China's Ministry of Information Industry's half-year mobile phone industry analytical report.

In the first half of this year, 37 mobile phone manufacturers in China produced a total of 82.1967 mln handsets (including GSM, GPRS and CDMA), and sold 80.0302 mln units. Of total sales, 36.8669 mln units were exported while 43.1633 mln units were sold on the domestic market, according to MII figures obtained by Interfax.

Domestic handset makers continued their expansion in the first half of this year. Output of domestic brands reached 229.9744 mln units, accounting for 31.98% of the total outputs by all 37 manufacturers, while sales soared to 22.2229 mln to account for 31.39% of the total sales. The percentage of total output occupied by domestic brands was 9.18 percentage points higher than in the same period of last year, and the percentage of total sales occupied by domestic brands was up 9.69 percentage points.
