Microsoft wins big in multiple ways. First they
preserve their sales to Apple customers (they'ed have to
do something with all the Mac programmers they have if
Apple were to go under. By making it non-voting shares,
they avoid anti-trust problems. By including their Java VM
in the agreement, they break down Sun's ability to continue
to guide it as a common standard [ they literally get to
define Java at the desktop ]. They get to co-operatively grab
some of Apples technology without having to actually buy it.
They can also assist in accelerating Apple's MS compatability
support. If Apple takes off again, they also get a good return
on their investment.
