Stones roll for Canadian city hit by Sars

The Rolling Stones have headlined an outdoor concert in Toronto, intended to boost tourism after Sars.

More than 400,000 tickets at £10 each were sold for the 11-hour show - billed as one of North America's largest ticketed events.

Mick Jagger said: "We are so excited about coming to Toronto to play in front of such a huge number of people, with such an incredible line up of talented singers and musicians."

Hundreds of fansspent the night outside a former military airfield and rushed in when gates opened to get a spot near the huge stage surrounded by video screens.

The World Health Organisation removed Canada's largest city from a list of places affected by Sars on July 2. Estimates put tourism losses in the hundreds of millions of pounds since the first outbreak in March.

Actor Jim Belushi said: "We're bringing this city back. We're celebrating with music and it's one of the most joyous and communal experiences."

Belushi joined master of ceremonies Dan Aykroyd for a set by their Have Love Will Travel Revue blues band.
