Hi Yiwu - The Liu article appears to have considerable input from the more paranoid side of China's foreign policy groups.

Since the mainland is planning to introduce elections at least at the village level, is Mr. Liu sure that democracy is a colonial legacy ? ;-) Certainly was absent most of the time HK was a colony...

In 12-15 years, a referendum on Taiwan would be very likely to result in a union with the mainland.

Maybe even sooner if North Korea's actions prompt Japan to re-arm.
