You forget that this is a volunteer army. Granted, some joined because of all the bennies they could get but that's not always the only way it goes. Sometimes you have to go to war.

Fair enough...however, it is still fair to expect one's leader to embark on just or justified wars even with a volunteer army...furthermore, you forget that this volunteer army tends to be staffed with economically challenged segment of the population. Not exactly a fair proposition.
