At the core of our being we find our will. The thing that attracts us to any purpose in life. Of our own free will we make a vow of commitment. A marriage vow is our free will commitment to honor our relationship with another as our chosen path in life. This was at one time something so solemn and sacred that all of the members of one's community would be called upon to give the utmost respect and support to the relationship bound by such a vow. It defined not only a legitimate path in life, it secured a way of life endorsed by society and in return nurished the definition of community within society.

Sad that the institution of marriage has become so trivialized, at least as far as it can be legitimized by government doctrine. On the other hand many still see this as a chosen heart path that is sacred above all other Earthly commitments.

The changes in culture over the last few decades has brought the gay lifestyle into the open. It is silly to ignor that. It has an obvious cultural status. It should be recognized as a legitimate civil union. That is far from giving anyone your approval for their behavior. It is simply a way to recognize their relationship as a legal entity. I stop short of declaring it the same as a traditional marriage, however.
