VASCO Announces VACMan/CryptaPak
A Smart Card Solution for the Internet and for Remote Dial-In
VASCO develops Business Relationships with Datakey and Fischer International Builds on Netscape Relationship
LOMBARD, Ill., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- VASCO Data Security, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of VASCO Corp. (OTC-Bulletin Board: VASC), announced today a new addition to its Advanced Authentication product line - VACMan/CryptaPak(TM). Available for beta clients immediately, CryptaPak is a standards based smart card solution that secures Internet applications based on the X.509 authentication standard and also secures remote dial-in access based on the RADIUS authentication standard.
VACMan/CryptaPak is a complete smart card solution that includes a smart card, smart card reader, and software that enables Netscape's Communicator to authenticate users via the X.509 certificate standard and software that enables remote dial-in users to be authenticated via the RADIUS authentication standard. Smart card support for Microsoft's Explorer will be available shortly.
VASCO also announced today OEM relationships with both Datakey, Inc. (Nasdaq:DKEY) and Fischer International. VASCO has OEM'd Datakey's SignaSURE CIP smart card package and VASCO has added Challenge/Response authentication support for remote dial-in access via the RADIUS protocol to VASCO's VACMan/Server. In addition, VASCO has OEM'd Fischer International's Smarty(TM) Smart Card Reader. The Smarty(TM) product allows the user's ``A'' drive to be utilized as a Smart Card Reader.
VACMan/CryptaPak will include VASCO's RADIUS software support, Datakey's smart card, and a choice of Datakey's serial smart card readers or Fischer's Smarty(TM) Smart Card Readers. Datakey supports X.509 Version 3 certificates.
Netscape today also announced an alliance of companies that are supporting the RSA Labs Public Key Cryptography Standard (PKCS #11). Datakey, Fischer International, Netscape (Nasdaq:NSCP), and VASCO Data Security are among the 10 companies mentioned in the announcement. On April 22, 1997 Netscape announced a partnership with VASCO to develop products based on open standards. Today's VACMan/CryptaPak announcement is a direct result of the cooperation between VASCO and Netscape along with the strong cooperation with Datakey and Fischer.
``Smart cards have been the buzz of the security industry, yet in reality until now you could not deploy an industry standard solution that worked across multiple authentication standards,'' said John Haggard, President VASCO Data Security, Inc. ``Our goal is to offer a multipurpose smart card solution in order to give corporations value that justifies the costs of the solution. Everybody loves smart cards, but nobody wants to invest in the solution when only one problem is solved. Consumers of CryptaPak will immediately be able to secure multiple security domains - traditional remote dial in access and Web Extranet applications.''
``As a leader in Internet security technology, Netscape is making it even safer for Netscape Communicator users to access corporate information from the network while on the road,'' said Taher Elgamal, Chief Scientist at Netscape. ``The combination of VASCO's suite of Internet security software products with Netscape Communicator and Netscape SuiteSpot will help enterprises quickly and easily deploy Extranet applications with enhanced security features.''
``I am particularly pleased that VASCO has chosen Datakey as their cryptographic smart card supplier, and that VASCO and its business partners were able to work together to bring a total solution to the table,'' said Carl Boecher, President and CEO of Datakey. ``Inter company cooperation is needed to advance Smart card based security solutions and VASCO has been aggressive in adding value to new emerging standards by building a smart card bridge to today's RADIUS authentication standard.''
