As far as China's taste for cars, I read in one the posts (maybe yours) that Japanese cars are well received. These are the young people and never learned history. The older people probably still remember the brutality of Japanese occupation. Many of my aunts and uncles (mostly deceased already) never touched anything made in Japan. They would spend 5 to 10 times as much to buy something else made in Europe and US. I used to get an earful (scolded) when they found out I had Japanese radio, TV, watch and car.
