The Franks reclaimed Jerusalem from the Saracens in 1089 and held it up to 1187 when Saladin settled the score, so to speak.... Thus I'd rephrase your sentence into: The Judeo-Protestants of America and Europe and right-wing schemers have put up road blocks to prevent peace because they knew that with Israel as a bait, there was more likelihood that Arab energies would be deflected away from Europe and towards the Israeli sitting duck....
