SeaChange Selected By CableTime in Multi-Million Dollar Deal

Hundreds of Cable Headends to be Equipped With Digital Ad Insertion
System and Satellite Network

August 6, 1997 10:17 AM

MAYNARD, Mass., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- SeaChange International, Inc.,
SEAC a leading provider of video server systems, today announced a
multi-million dollar commitment for the purchase of its digital ad insertion
systems and satellite services from CableTime, the leading U.S. cable ad sales
contractor. Beginning with 100 headend systems to be installed in 1998, the
SeaChange-CableTime relationship will create the largest single cable
advertising delivery system.

CableTime, based in College Station, Texas, is a subsidiary of TCA Cable TV,
a top-20 U.S. cable operator. CableTime has long-term contracts with 19 of
the top 20 U.S. cable operators, including TCI and Time Warner. CableTime
manages ad sales in over 500 headends in more than 30 states, reaching over
three million subscribers. CableTime expects to generate more than $60
million in gross revenue in its fiscal year ending October 31, 1997.

"Establishing a long-term relationship with SeaChange, the best hardware and
software provider in the industry, will offer CableTime's cable partners better
service, more revenue and increased reliability," said Darrell Campbell,
president of CableTime. "In addition, working with SeaChange will enable our
existing digital systems to receive satellite delivery of ads to local headends."

SeaChange has taken advantage of the modularity of its SPOT System to
create a family of configurations for different sized cable markets. Its
objective is to extend economical opportunities to hundreds of additional cable
headends that previously found digital ad insertion to be cost prohibitive.

"CableTime is the leading 'turnkey' ad sales organization in the U S. and has
established an outstanding reputation in efficiently managing its advertising
business," said Bill Styslinger, president and CEO, SeaChange International.
"CableTime's selection of SeaChange represents an important breakthrough
for our company. Our relationship with CableTime should be very
encouraging to the cable TV industry as it seeks to generate additional local
advertising revenue in smaller markets."

Founded in 1993, SeaChange International, of Maynard, Mass., is the
television industry's leading supplier of digital advertisement insertion systems
with live sites in more than 200 cities, serving more than 10,000 TV channels,
worldwide. The software-based SeaChange system allows television
operators to utilize distributed computing, video compression and data
networking techniques to automate the distribution and management of ads,
infomercials, local origination programming, movies and other revenue
generating video. FYI, Ya'll -- Ron
