Skeeter, you articulate your position very well. However, the central thesis of your argument, that perception of reality must be based on the truth, simply ignores a far more fundametnal aspect (of life, not just the markets) that truth is simply sensory perception.
not true. reality and truth are things we must search for.
you are confusing reality with information used to make decisions. based upon your statement, there is no such thing as a "bad" decision because all decisions are based upon "reality."
The role of perception in truth stems from our varying states of ignorance/knowledge. To a quantum physicist, the universe is mostly space (vacuum) separated by fundamental particles existing at different energy levels. To pat robertson, the universe is a concrete reality created by his close friend Mr. God during circa 200 BC (g). There is no absolute truth, for there is nothing absolute - this is deeper than it seems - ponder on it (g).
Your notion of the truth is different from my notion of the truth which is different from that of Tom Kurlak because everything is perceived and all perception is colored by our states of existence and awareness. Then there is also the question what the truth constitutes : Your awareness of the fundamentals of a company, say micron, is limited by your sources and the company you keep :-). It is quite plausible that all these hordes of people (I counted almost 300 10000+ blocks yesterday) buying micron at these exalted levels may be have access to "truths" that you or I don't.
the reality is that 16 mb dram pricing is 25% below last q and falling. it may turn around it may not. 70% of the q is over. estimates are for a 20% increase in eps.
The reality as you see it. For someone like me with a longer time horizon, the reality is a company that is making the right moves in terms of gaining market share and positioning itself for the semi boom cycle through appropriate alliances and product mixes. In reality, I don't care about MU's earnings this quarter whereas most (if not all) of your rationale hinges on MU coming in below its current street estimates. We are already diverging in terms of what the reality is for us.
Incidentally, If you are interested, I do offer classes in both occidental and oriental philosophy, with a special emphasis on eastern mysticism (vedas and upanishads) and relevance of zen buddhism in contemporary thought development (G).
