I think those numbers are highly inflated but in your mind, they justified this war?

Remember that under the sanctions Iraq was restricted from buying many many products. Water becomes difficult to purify, medicinals are unobtainable...the economic sanctions destroyed Iraqi economy, so the government had to resort to food rationing, through the food for oil program, which they did for years, reportedly with good effectiveness. Soon after the end of the current war, that food distribution was completely disrupted and stopped. So basically, the planners at the Pentagon and State Department had put all their effort to the war plan, and given basically no thought to the welfare of the people in the aftermath. Amnesty International and UN watch groups have reported that sanctions have caused the (probably premature) death of 1.5 Million Iraqis. Of course one can rebut that Saddam spent a great deal of money on himself (palaces and who knows what else).
