So you think sanctions should have been lifted and Saddam should have stayed in power?

I have told you before...bush had a sure win with his tough approach to Iraq. He gave inspections real teeth for the first time in years. Yes, sanctions could have been gradually relaxed commensurate with increasingly intrusive inspections backed by the threat of force. That was largely the will of the UN majority.

The U.N. Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq were irrelevant?

Your sentence would suggest that I or those prescribing to a path of peaceful resolution of the Iraq dispute would make light of the UN and of course nothing could be further from the truth. No one mocked and used the UN for its pre-ordained war purposes more than the administration did. I found it shameful to watch the sharade given that the outcome had been decided, and the eventual failure was no surprise. In fact, the political persuasion of the right persistently maintains that the UN was and is irrelevant. You will not hear me say that. I believe that all resolutions are to be honored, if imposed on our enemies and allies alike. Of course we don't go to war with Israel because it ignores UN resolutions. Don't tell me that Iraq was a threat to the US...I think we know better.
