I'm sure dropping Israel would "work wonders" too.

But just how would we ensure that China keeps any of their side of the bargain, in terms of support of us in the UN ?

China may not have literally banged their shoe on the desktop, but they have nonetheless vowed to bury us, and they are far more patient than most. I think any deals with them should be *very* circumspect, even if it were remotely feasible your friend's idea would pass.
