China's second largest offshore gas field begins operation

Beijing,Friday, August 01, 2003: China's second largest offshore gas field, Dongfang 1-1 today began supplying gas after three years of construction in South China's Hainan province, the state media reported today.

The gas field, the first marine natural gas field independently developed by China, sends gas to some key industrial bases in the island province through a 256 km long pipeline.
The state-run China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has invested a total of 393.97 million US dollars in the gas field, it said.
Located in the sea, 113 kms from Dongfang city, the field covers 287.7 square kms of gas area with 99.68 billion cubic meters of reserves, the report said.
