Ted, Already the Iraqis have begun to resent us.
"It's the economy, stupid!" They obviously learned well from Clinton.
I doubt many want to go back to Saddam's reign. Of course, the media would rather quote those who do than those who don't, mainly out of "balanced sensationalism."
I can understand how you think that way. Certainly, many conservatives are trying to blame the media for what's going wrong in Iraq as if the media was somehow involved in post war Iraqi planning. However, I must point out that even FOX News is showing disturbing images of unhappy Iraqis.
Furthermore, many of us have the not surprising belief that the Iraqis would much prefer us over Saddam. Actually, as it turns out, they would much prefer neither of us. Really, I can't blame them. I think the Canadians are great but very quickly, I would grow to hate their uninvited occupation of NYC or Chicago. No one likes an uninvited guest, and all of us eventually get tired of even invited ones. So the surprising [to us but no one else] turn in American-Iraqi relations really should not be a surprise, and frankly, I only see it getting worse the longer we stay.
