If the pope wants marriage straight, he should make sure Catholic marriage is straight. Bur we are a secular country, and religious demands should be meaningless as regards our laws, and pieces of paper- like a marriage license. I hope we wouldn't listen to the pope if he said homosexuals shouldn't get licenses for their dogs, and I think his pronouncement on marriage should be just as meaningless to the civil authorities (Catholics can enshrine his words in their hearts as much as they want, just don't inflict the pope on people who don't give a fig for what he has to say. He's just another guy in a funny outfit as far as I'm concerned.)
