They haven't been as outspoken on the issue but they have always been against fake marriages.

Other factors -

1 - Its harder to tell if a marriage is fake then it is to tell that it is homosexual.

2 - In opposing homosexual marriage the church is defending a wide spread and long lasting tradition (that marriage is between a man and a woman). That marriage is a serious monogamous commitment between partners for love and child raising has never been completely true. Even in places and times when you couldn't get a divorce, a lot of marriages where for political reasons, and/or where just shams for one reason or another.
