I am very happy that I got to see those old salmon runs that you could "walk across." And they were probably well depleted from what the generations past got to see. But in a stream behind a friend's house, just outside of Seattle we got to watch every year as they battled their way upstream, side by side. What a heroic migration that is. It is just amazing to sit and watch their determination, knowing they haven't eaten since entering fresh water, you can see the war wounds and deterioration......but they powered on.. comment on your top ten list... Sitting on a ferry, cruising through a fjord in Norway...this woman from NY says, "look at that waterfall, I wonder where that came from?" (take no notice of that glacier looming above)...and her husband says "don't be stupid, what do you think keeps the fjord full?" uh huh...
