I must have used old depressed prices. Thanks for the correction and update on cattle prices. I have not seen the commodity charts for several years, so I did not bother checking the present prices vs a year ago.

The calf found with mad cow disease was a (then) recent import (i.e. recently bought at that time) from US. There were no other cattle with the disease, not even from that same group. At least that's what I was told by a Canadian who just returned from annual visit to his hometown.

Just to show how vicious politics can be. Just imagine how desperate the economies of those countries in the embargo list. Punishment for Canada on these two items, cattle and lumber, has impacted Canadian cattle ranching area quite severely. They become helpless when the normal livelihood they have taken for granted for so many years is taken away.
