LMAO. I hooked up with the ranger lady at Glacier Bay, specifically because she mentioned Janis Joplin as being her heroine. We BS'ed a bit about her, and Alaska, and then I told her, "OK, I've got my camera. Tell your guys to knock a piece off". We both started laughing.
As for salmon, I know people who are in their early 40's and grew up here. Their bus driver would stop and let them watch that. Also had a neighbor who swears that 25 years ago, he and a buddy waded into the Eel and pulled out a 6 footer. I think they are making a very slow comeback. I go to Hog Farm to watch them. The first year, saw maybe 3 or 4. Several years later, we saw 7 at once. I think that was the group that came back this year, when we saw about 2 dozen at once. They work very hard at restoring their creek, in large part to bring back salmon. My bud started a business using bioengineering to restore creeks, and has worked for people all the way up to the headwaters of their particular creek. It's working; nature is a tough old bitch, and will survive us.

PS Forgot to mention that Fuzzette lives on that same creek :-) |
