What I know for sure is that there was enough info available to Bush/Blair to make very unclear Saddam's WMD position

Exactly. Years of inspections, 12 years of sanctions, and they still couldn't know. They did know that he used to have them and for a long time was trying to get more. They didn't have solid evidence showing that it was unlikely that he didn't have WMD or that he wouldn't get a lot more in time.

Because of the same lack of clarity, they also didn't have solid evidence that he had any WMD. When you don't know how deep the water is in a river, the smart/non suicidal person doesn't just jump off the bridge without doing further investigation.

So either Bush/Blair are stupid, or they had an agenda they wanted met so they went for it. They certainly didn't do the smart thing which would have been to further look into the matter. And as far as I can tell, its the Amer. and the Brit. public who are paying the price for their recklessness.......at least so far.
