Greg I'm guessing here but I suppose you think that because of CIBC coverage there is more "interest" in the stock as compared to the case of "no" coverage. Therefore since there is more "interest" there would be more trades hence higher volume. Is that right? I'm not convinced!

For example there was essentially no analyst coverage during most of the period from May 1, 2001 through May 1, 2002. According to Yahoo during that time MRV's average trading volume was 1,086,342 shares per day.

CIBC initiated coverage of MRV on May 2nd, 2002. Since that time, to date, the average trading volume has been 463,184 shares per day.

So the volume during the no coverage period was 235% higher than during the time period covered by CIBC.

Of course that does not completely disprove your point because we don't know for sure what the trading volume during this latter period would have been without CIBC coverage.

But it certainly doesn't reinforce your supposition.
