Big Mistake in NYC, IMO, John. You will be poised to see what happens. Too long to post. Well, we, of course, don't have any idea whether it's a mistake or not. Will have to wait for a few years to see the results. I haven't had time to read Traub's piece so I don't know how he frames the issues, but he's customarily rather conservative in pedagogical matters so I would expect the frame to favor the "traditionalists" as he calls them in the earlier section I just skimmed.
