THAT's the problem. If you are allowed to consider that, why not race, ethnicity, if your father is on a first-name basis with the University President, ...... ?
THAT does not equate to excellence. It is an extraneous factor independent of it. This is not saying that economic deprivation should exclude you or mean you should not get a scholarship. It does mean that you get no preference over someone who is not economic deprived.

If you are willing to accept the argument that PE is a legitimate major at the university level, then athletic ability is a measure of excellence for those programs. I would take exception to the idea that athletic programs belong in colleges, though.
Artistic? If you are to have music, acting, writing, literature, or other artistic programs at the university level, isn't that precisely what you are looking for? I see no difference between that and looking for mathematical talent for a mathematics or scientific program. |
