Hi quehubo; Re: "It will be suicidal for us to allow the Persian gulf region to decay further and interrupt our energy supplies."
Uh, Iraq is now in such sorry state that they have to import gasoline. And that interruption was due to our actions, not to any "decay".
Re: " We either die trying to change the present course on their land or we come back home and die cold hiding in caves."
Ah, the old rhetorical device of presenting two alternatives, without presenting even a shred of evidence that these are the only two alternatives, LOL. Two can play at that silly game:
So which is it? Do you beat your wife? Or do you let her run rough-shod over your ass?
The alternative to dying in our "caves" is to pay for the oil we want.
I know that this is a radical proposition but "trade" has been practiced for several thousand years on this planet, and despite all neocon claims to the contrary, has been quite effective at moving commodities around. Yes, even in modern times "trade" has allowed large amounts of oil to be "purchased" from oil rich countries.
I realize that the concept of "buying" will be alien to self-righteous losers who believe in stealing, but there is solid theoretical evidence that "economics" works best when goods are "bought" instead of taken. A man by the name of Adam Smith wrote a classic book on the subject about 200 years ago.
Okay, my suggestion (that we "pay" for the oil we want) is a radical one, and it is a suggestion that many people will find very hard to accept. I know that most of you are asking "how did our oil end up under their land?", but the fact is that when we "buy" stuff from them, we also "sell" things back to them. You could also ask "how did their computers end up in being made in our factories?"
