Macr has excellent technology that is truly without peer in the industry. Unfortunately, they have a limited market at the moment (at least relative to what I think they SHOULD have), and in my opinion this will continue to be the case well into the foreseeable future unless

a. DVD's and the new powerful, inexpensive hardware hitting the market make possible truly compelling multimedia titles that people will want to shell out some bucks for and bring back the "off line title developer" with whom macromedia has traditionally enjoyed popularity or (preferably)
b. Internet bandwidth explodes, allowing real multimedia to be
delivered to the masses. Then webmasters will be falling over themselves to make their sites more attractive than the other guy's. Only then will the 1.5 meg shockwave download be justifiable to most people. The problem is that by the time this scenario arises, it may be too late as other competing technologies continue to evolve. OR...
c. Intranet-based training catches on big and drives authorware sales. This is somewhat likely given the benefits of on-line training (ease of mass delivery, multimedia, interactivity, no instructors, self-paced, performance monitoring...) and the higher bandwidth available to corporate intranets.

I also think the products can stand on their own regardless of msft/aapl. I'm just concerned with management's inability to exploit this superb technology. I think they really need to do more work to create a market for their products. They appear to be standing still and taking the field of dreams approach. I'd like to see Colligan or Burgess out there evangelizing ala Larry Ellison and Oracle, or Mr. Bill. They need to get the word out in a high profile fashion and show people what's possible.
