What did you do?
A whole lotta stuff.
Slept in a tent, slept in a bed, slept in a beach chair,
slept in a lounge chair, slept in a car, slept in a boat,
and slept under the stars.
I put worms on hooks, canoed, sailed, power boated, swam,
skipped rocks, dug in the sand, sawed wood, painted wood,
hammered nails, visited Fort William Henry, rode on a large
steam boat called the Mini-Ha-Ha, ate fatty foods that
taste great when cooked over fire, listened to music,
watched the video Gangs Of NY, went out for breakfast, went
out for lunch, went out for dinner, looked at real estate
while dreaming of living in the Adirondacks, became immune
to mosquito bites (I must have been bitten nearly one
thousand times <ng> but have not felt itchy like my kids
and wife do), chased our beagle who must have gotten
loose one thousand times, watched sunsets, watched
sunrises, watched birds, watched bats, watched bugs,
watched late night infomercials about Dean Martin's Variety
Show's greatest moments and nearly bought it (in hindsight,
I should have, darn it. It looked really funny), ate ice
cream sundeas and made ice cream sodas with root beer that
foamed up like crazy, and we did some other stuff that
will probably come back to me after my 15 minutes of
editing is over. Oh yeah... I spent a lot of time just
thinking how lucky I am.
Did ya have fun?
I sure did.
I bet the kids had a blast!
Yeah they really did.
I really enjoyed being with them all week long.
One of the highlights was sleeping in a tent with them.
I got to see what it was like to be a kid again at bed time.
I got to see a side of them I never get to see. We shined
flash lights at the tent ceiling and listened to spooky
noises, and stared up through the plastic tent skylight at
the night sky, and laughed at stupid stuff.
Little Margaret is changing so quickly. She's been
learning to crawl and stand up with the help of stuff
around her. She's developing such a fun personality and
loves to laugh. (Except after three hours in a car seat.)
Wifey and I looked at each other often, proudly admiring
the family we have together. We are both very lucky.
This little vacation helped us remember just that. I
couldn't ask for more.

P.S. One thing I didn't do is read or watch the news all
week long. It felt good not watching. I not sure I missed
much other than Bob Hope's funeral. I'd like to get copies
of his old television comedy specials and visits to the
troops. He really was a special person. One of the
funniest comedians and perhaps my favorite of all time. |
