I object to the GOP habit of hijacking elections, but if it happens, Riordan at least has a sense of humor and business background. He's not a Bush favorite because his money isn't dirty enough, so they'll push Simon again no doubt.

Imagine if Riordan won last time, or if Davis had the advantage of someone creative enough to (a)blast Cheney/Enron in a constant legal firefight for release of insider documents on looting CA, and even more brilliant, to counter the looting by PGE by (b)creating a public/private corp to buy them out of bankruptcy, avoid funneling $9 billion up to their parent, and controlling those rates for the ratepayer until they stabilized.

Those moves would have save $20 billion or so in combined ratepayer/taxpayer thievery.

What's needed are politicians savvy enough to see through the gov't-as-organized-crime situation, and enough cojones to actually do something about it, since one of the downsides is to be "Wellstoned" if you get too cozy with the people.
