That is correct.

The vast majority of Northern Iraq WAS controlled by the Kurds, not Saddam, but the inference that they were in Iraq, and therefore under Saddam's guidance, has been pointed out here many times as well.The reports merely stated they were in Iraq,and therefore fooled the American public into thinking they were sponsored by Saddam.

Too often, it is what is NOT said that makes these reports so erroneous. I assume the Bush admin. believes they have to right present less than complete information to shore up their position, without regard to the ramifications once the Loyal Opposition and an actual free press is comfortable in questioning this information.

" The Kurds said (and some good reporting seemed to confirm) that Ansar was working together with Iraqi Intelligence ".

I would regard that information about as reliable as the information provided by the Iraq Opposition Group, and we now know how reliable THAT was.I made references to the possibility of their information being faulty at the time.
I can't remember if I was called a traitor or Anti-American or both at the time.The Kurds had a motive to make the connection,that motivation should always be considered when gathering third party information.
